Yep, our son is confused with day vs. night! We're working on that so if anyone has any advice that would be EXCELLENT. He screams all night and needs nursed it seems every couple hours, and then sleeps calmly all day and I have to wake him up to feed him. What to do...
Here's some fun facts. Nolan has officially pooed or peed in yes EVERY outfit I have put him in (he likes to wait to pee until after we remove the diaper). SO off to Walmart Scott goes - for some backup newborn gear! We ran out in only 2 days. Yikes, hope the laundry machine hurries up! Everyone said to skip buying a lot of newborn outfits so I did but now guess we need a couple more!

Well you have made me smile today:)
ReplyDeleteNolan will get it all figured out soon. Newborns sleep alot and those first few days it seems to be always during the day but he will get himself turned around.
When I would wake up to feed Ethan I would not turn the TV on (even though I wanted to so it would keep me awake) or any lights so Ethan would know it was still night time and to go back to sleep. Even when he knows day from night he will most likely still be waking every three hours or so to nurse for those first few weeks. I think the first night we were home we did not sleep until like 5am and than only caught an hour or two of sleep. We are praying for you morning and night:)
Good luck...I don't have any advise because I have no idea what to do in that situation but we are praying for you (that is the only help I can give at this point:)
ReplyDeleteHang in there! Once you get through the first week or 2, he will get his schedule straight. It just takes newborns a little time.
ReplyDeleteYou will be so glad you purchased those few extra outfits. With kids laundry is a NEVER ENDING chore.
We will keep praying.
we woke luke up at regular intervals during the day so he knew that he was supposed to eat more often. then at night, we didn't wake him up at all. he is going through a rough patch again right now and we're going through the whole.."do we let him cry it out, or go get him" thing. i've pretty much realized that my baby doesn't care about my schedule which was a real blow:) haha! BUT i am amazed each day how God gives me the strength i need to be a good mom! i will be praying that nolan gets straightened around quickly with his sleeping habits! and yes, like the other girls said, they sleep a ton in the beginning!! i used to think something was wrong! but it's OK!
ReplyDeletefirst of all, nolan is precious! i just loved your other post. isn't it amazing how fast your heart can melt!? ah ... the day/night mix up. we were there... just a few weeks ago. we did a little bit of what everyone else said. we woke addie at least every three hours during the day to eat. she might have been half asleep or dilerious, but she got woken up and put to the breast. at night... we let her sleep (one time, as long as 6 hours!). and, when she woke up on her own at night, we kept it dark, and didn't talk to her at all. in fact, sometimes we didn't even change her diaper (unless it was REALLY bad) because it woke her up even more-- or she wanted to play. addie wasn't straightened out until about 2 weeks... at which time she had her first bout of "cluster feeding"-- say every 1-2 hours... but it has been smooth sailing since! i'm sure you've heard this, but at this point just sleep when he does (don't try and run around your house doing a ton while he naps), and he will figure it out. and, as far as dirtying all the clothes... it seemed like the first week or 2 everytime we took off addie's diaper, she pottied. i think it was the gush of cool air on her bottom. so... in an effort to save clothes and the changing table cover, we started slipping the next (clean) diaper under the one that she currently had on. then, when we'd pull the old one off, if she'd potty, there was something there to catch it. oh, and, even though she was 9 lbs, we're STILL in newborn clothes. i feel like she rotates between the same 5 outfits! it's a shame too b/c this girl has a TON of cute stuff to wear, and with the change of seasons, we might just have to pack stuff up with tags still on! keep us posted. we're praying for you all!
ReplyDeletei just wrote a novel. sorry!
ReplyDeleteWell, first I want to congratulate you both....Sara (since you really did all the work)...great work!! You two look so very happy. Keep the pics coming since we love to look while we wait for the next chart.....Best of luck on the whole night and day thing...I am pretty sure that when Nolan gets into his mid 20's he will start to get his times in order....but by then he will not want adhere to any sleep pattern. You two will do just fine...and so will Nolan.
ReplyDeleteTake care and God bless you all.....Love, Sharon
