The next morning we went on a tour of Antelope Canyon, which is located on a Navajo Indian reservation just outside the town of Page, AZ. It's called a slot canyon because its really narrow and deep. You can touch both sides of the canyon with your arms outstretched in a lot of places and it gets as deep as 130 feet in some sections. It's made of sandstone and is formed by erosion from flash floods during monsoon season. The water rushes through and makes the walls very smooth and makes these lines in the rock that give the rocks a motion look to them. Very cool place and highly recommended if you're in the area ever. It was kind of hard to photograph due to the dim light and all the different shadows and curves, but I think I got some good ones.

Sara and Nolan enjoying the canyon. Nolan enjoyed the echo of his screams in the canyon. Not sure if the other 2 people in our tour group did.

This was called the "heart" of the canyon. If you use your imagination you can see it. The bottom is at the right at about 2 o'clock. Think more real heart and not cartoon heart.

Close up of the walls. Amazing color and motion. They were very smooth.

A flash flood can fill up the canyon to the top. The canyon drains from miles away, so they have to make sure it is not raining about 50 miles away when they give tours or else they risk getting caught in a flash flood. When the rain drains it leaves stuff in the canyon like the tumbleweed in the middle left in the picture above. The Navajo believe everything done by nature is sacred and for a purpose, so they never remove anything the rains leave behind.

Looking up at a couple small openings in the top.

One of the deeper parts of the canyon. In the summer time around noon the sun is in the right spot to shine straight through to the bottom of the canyon, and it makes a nice sunbeam that looks like a spotlight on the floor. The sun was too low in the sky in october for that to happen for us.

Impressive pictures! Beautiful scenery. Good job!
