Hot Stuff

Here are a couple short videos that are pretty cool. I hope they turn out. Sara narrates them but it's kind of hard to hear because it was pretty loud especially the steam vents. This area was called Krafla. It was the only truly active volcanic area we went to. It was an amazing landscape. Everything was red except the really hot areas which were white or gray. They warned you not to walk on those areas or you shoes might melt. There were open mud pots which are basically molten rock boiling away. That's in the first video. The second one is a large steam vent that has hot sulfur gas rapidly escaping from it. It kind of smelled like rotten eggs in this area.

This was the area from the parking lot. We hiked up the volcano in the back.

This was also from the top looking down on some of the mud pots. You can tell where they are from the steam and the lighter colors.

This is a picture from the top of the volcano. It was interesting seeing the really hot red ground and then snow covered mountains in the distance.
