This is our first post in the "When the Eye Goes Bad Series." This was kind of fun one, because we don't see these to often. This is a picture of a retinal macroaneurysm. This is a large aneurysm of one of the retinal arteries. This is a picture of one that has leaked extensively. The actual aneurysm is hard to see, but it basically looks like a round bubble on the artery going through it. All the blood is in the retina and has leaked into her macula. This is not good as her vision was "count fingers" in that eye. She may get some improvement but this will scar extensively. These are caused by chronic hypertension. This is another good reason you should get an eye exam even if you are "seeing good". This was asymptomatic before it bled and could have been treated before she lost her vision.

Very interesting...and it reminded me that I need to get my eyes checked...you have any openings? I think we might try to come visit you guys this summer so I need to know how far in advanced you are booked so I know when to call and schedule my eye appointment (and Jeff's and maybe Nathaniel's as well.) :)
